That Time I Was In A Parade + Free St. Patrick’s Day Coloring Pages | Word Search
Did I ever tell you about that time I found myself smack dab in the middle of a St Patrick’s Day parade in Savannah, Georgia? I was driving from South Carolina to Florida and I was running on fumes. I’d just finished mid-term exams in college and I was headed to Florida for spring break all full of excitement and feelings of freedom.
And then exhaustion set in sooner than expected.
So I got off the interstate and went in search of a hotel. Traffic was crawling and I couldn’t figure out why so many people were lined up on the streets. There were people wearing green, people throwing beads, green beers in hand, and shamrocks everywhere. Blame it on midterm exam exhaustion but it slowly hit me. It was St. Patrick’s Day. In Savannah.
If you’re not aware, Savannah celebrates St. Patty’s Day like it’s 1999. At the time the city of Savannah was founded, there was a huge Irish population. Savannah folks don’t forget their roots so they celebrate “their holiday” every year in true Éire style. The first St. Patrick’s Day parade in Savannah was held in 1813 and in the 200 years that’s followed, Savannah has fine-tuned their merriment.
The traffic I found myself in the middle of?
It was actually part of the parade. When I looked a little closer, I realized that I was four cars behind a St. Patrick’s Day float that housed dancing leprechauns throwing out beads with a giant rainbow backdrop that moved up and down.
It was not my brightest moment in the history of Kim moments.
In my defense, those were some killer midterms. Neuropsychology FTW!
So every year, about this time, I think back to when an exhausted college student inadvertently found herself in a St. Patrick’s Day parade. In Savannah, Georgia.
In honor of all who celebrate St. Patrick’s Day, I’ve made you some fun printables (including coloring pages) to get your Irish on. Minus the traffic and dancing leprechauns, of course. 😉
The first is a four-leaf clover “mandala-style” coloring page.
Next is a fun word search.
Kiss Me! I’m Irish =)
Here’s a shamrock coloring page:
How about a Word Scramble? I even included the key at the bottom of the page.
