Devil’s Food Cherry Coffee Cake with Glaze #recipes

This recipe I’m about to share with you is one of my all time favorites. It is one of the moister and tastier coffee cakes out there. Seriously. Everyone who tries it, loves it and I hope you’ll give it a try and love it too.

“Devil’s Food walks into a coffee shop, hangs out with cherry, and they get glazed.” <———-That’s what I call this recipe at home. Yes, I’m corny. Since I figured that title wouldn’t go over so well on the internet, I’m alternately naming it Devil’s Food Cherry Coffee Cake with Glaze. It’s just not as fun to say is it?

Devil's Food Cherry Coffee Cake with Glaze

For this recipe you will need:

  • 1 package Devil’s Food cake mix {I use Duncan Hines}
  • 1 8 oz container sour cream
  • 3 eggs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 12 or 21 oz can of cherry pie filling {use smaller can for less of a cherry taste or bigger can for full cherry flavor}
  • 1/4 cup of sliced almonds {optional}

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Lightly grease a 9 x 13 baking pan or bundt cake pan. Mix the sour cream, eggs, and milk together in a bowl. Add the cake mix and combine with a mixer. When the mixture is nice and smooth, pour it into the greased baking pan. Pour your cherry pie filling over the mixture and swirl into the batter with a spoon.

Your batter should look similar to this:

Bake for 30-40 minutes. Check cake for doneness using toothpick or fork. If it either comes out clean and cake is lightly browned, it’s done!

Recipe note: It’s best to apply the glaze below while cake is still warm.

  • 2 cups of powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons of softened butter
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla

Mix all of the ingredients together {using whisk or electric mixer}. Mix until smooth. If glaze is too thick or dry, add a bit more milk. Pour over warm cake. Optional: garnish with almonds or other nuts

Recipe note: While making the glaze, remember that you’re making glaze and not frosting.

———–>This cake tastes best when served warm. If you’re serving it later, I recommend heating each slice up in the microwave for 15-20 seconds. Warm glaze and refrigerated glaze taste totally different!

    THIS…is exactly what I was looking for! I wish I had found your recipe before I baked a similar cake yesterday…your version with the sour cream and the glaze is the perfect addition, and will, quite possibly, be my newest addiction! I can’t wait to try it. 🙂
